Intro

Scalping is a fast-paced trading style focused on capturing small price movements.

The Ichimoku Cloud is usually seen as a swing tool, but it can be very effective for scalping when used correctly.

Ichimoku Basics

The Ichimoku system has five main components:

  • Tenkan-sen → short-term direction
  • Kijun-sen → medium-term direction
  • Cloud (Kumo) → support and resistance
  • Chikou Span → momentum confirmation

What Matters for Scalping

You don’t need everything.

Focus on:

  • Tenkan / Kijun cross
  • Cloud direction
  • Chikou confirmation

Best Timeframes

  • M1 → very fast, high noise
  • M5 → balanced
  • M15 → slower but cleaner

👉 Best overall:

M5 and M15

Always check a higher timeframe (M30 / H1) for trend direction.

Strategy 1: Tenkan–Kijun Cross

Buy

  • Tenkan crosses above Kijun

Sell

  • Tenkan crosses below Kijun

Best entries

  • Above the cloud → bullish
  • Below the cloud → bearish

Avoid

  • Price inside the cloud (chop)

Strategy 2: Kumo Breakout

Buy

  • Price breaks above the cloud

Sell

  • Price breaks below the cloud

Confirmation

  • Strong momentum
  • Chikou supports direction

Stop

  • Below cloud (longs)
  • Above cloud (shorts)

Strategy 3: Chikou Confirmation

Use Chikou to confirm strength.

  • Above price → bullish
  • Below price → bearish

No confirmation:

skip the trade

Risk Management

Scalping requires strict control.

  • Stop-loss → 5–10 pips (depending on volatility)
  • Target → 1:1.5 to 1:2
  • Keep size controlled

Key Rules

  • Trade with the trend
  • Avoid chop (inside cloud)
  • Wait for confirmation
  • Keep execution simple

Final Thoughts

Ichimoku works well for scalping when you:

  • focus on structure
  • confirm momentum
  • avoid overtrading

Speed matters—but discipline matters more.
